Glenmere Sport

In March 2017, Glenmere’s Hockey teams took part in a tournament at Wigston Academy playing against teams from other local primary schools. All the children played really well and our A team came in second place and B team came 3rd. The A team will now represent Oadby & Wigston playing other successful schools from other areas. Well done to everyone who took part!

Glenmere runners from the Oadby & Wigston Cross Country championships on Saturday 25th March.

On Saturday 25th March many of our children represented the school in the Oadby & Wigston Cross Country championships. Our children competed against the best runners from Blaby, Harborough, Hinckley & Bosworth, East Leake, City of Leicester, Loughborough, Melton & Belvoir, North West Leicester, South Charnwood and Rutland.
Myah S, Year 4, completed her very strong season with an outstanding performance coming 2nd out of 104 runners which was an improvement on her brilliant result last year when she came in 4th place and Seamus C, Year 4, finished his season by also coming in 2nd place improving on his 3rd place finish in last year’s finals. Both Myah and Seamus were presented with their medals by World and European 800m medallist, Jenny Meadows.

The School Games Mark is owned and created by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and is implemented and developed by the Youth Sports Trust and Sport England. We are currently working towards our award. We are doing a number of things towards this award. We have entered a variety of competitions, entering A, B and C teams. We have sports leaders running sessions for the younger children, we have a group of year 4 children learning how to officiate hockey and we have links with many external clubs and providers. We are going to be working on developing KS2 children’s ability to officiate KS1 children. We will keep you updated in our newsletters and on this page.

Our Year 3 and 4 children played their first league rugby match in February 2017 and won 110-35. Well done!
