Discovery Trust have developed an online phonics programme which has been created by the most experienced phonics teachers.

Learning to read is a vital skill for all children and one that as adults we take for granted. Phonological awareness is the ability to hear sounds and discriminate between different sounds, eventually attaching a letter or group of letters to these sounds. This skill is one component of reading called de-coding. In acquiring and developing the building blocks of decoding all children in EYFS and year 1 have at least one phonics lesson a day in school in order to meet the required standard of reading by the end of year one. Children who do not meet this standard would then be given extra support in year 2 and beyond if required, due to the importance of reading to the rest of a child’s learning journey

Each lesson is approximately 15 -20 minutes long and will follow the same structure of review/revisit – teach – practise – apply.
