Personal Development

At Glenmere, we like to ensure our pupils to be prepared to engage as individuals, parents, workers and citizens with economic, social and cultural change, including the continued globalisation of the economy and society, are able to adapt to new work and leisure patterns and keep up with the rapid expansion of communication technologies.

See below the overview for their personal development overview.

Reading in Year 5

Each half term, we spotlight an Author of the Half Term and dive deep into their life and stories. Alongside reading their books to build our VIPERS reading skills (Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval, and Summarising), the children discover fun facts about the authors themselves, helping them connect the real people behind the books and sparking a genuine love for reading!

Recommended Book List For Year 5

Take a look at the books that are recommended for year 5 readers. These we will be covering in Year 5 over the year or will link with the curriculum covered in Year 5...

White Rose Maths Resources

Here you will find resources to support the learning of maths using the White Rose approach that we use daily in Year 5. White Rose Maths is excited to have produced a range of work booklets for parents and children to use over the summer or during next year. These booklets can be found on Amazon for the Kindle or downloaded below.  There is one booklet for each of our blocks for Y1 to Y6.

KS2 SATs

In Year 6, pupils take their end-of-Key Stage 2 SATs, which assess their knowledge and understanding in English and mathematics. The tests provide an opportunity for children to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout Key Stage 2.  At our school, we support pupils to approach SATs with confidence, preparing them carefully while ensuring that their wellbeing remains our priority. We encourage children to work hard, believe in themselves and remember that SATs are just one part of their learning journey.
The assessments include English grammar, punctuation and spelling, which consists of a Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling test and a Spelling test; English reading, which is a reading booklet and written comprehension test; and mathematics, which includes three papers: Paper 1 – Arithmetic, Paper 2 – Reasoning and Paper 3 – Reasoning.

Although these are sat in year 6, we like to prepare the children whilst still in year 5 so they feel as confident as they can during this period.
